The preparation of the environment is one of the most important elements in Montessori education. From 0-3 it must be safe above all, provide for exploration, and support the development of movement and language. At 3-6 it should reflect the culture or country of the child and meet the needs of this age. At 6-12 years it should provide keys for the child to explore all of the knowledge of the human race in the past and present, in order to prepare the child to participate in its future. At all ages thought should go into the selection of each item.
