In the first three years of life a child is in a "sensitive period" for language. From the first focus on the human face and mouth at birth, this develops into an intense interest in all things related to speech, and soon writing and reading. At this time we provide a wealth of vocabulary of the child's world, verbally and with pictures and objects. Also beautiful books, songs, fingerplays, poetry, work that prepares the hand for writing, and most of all, our time - to listen to and talk with the child.
